The Gold Dust Woman

When it comes to fashion, it looks as though Lex can do no wrong. Drawing style inspiration from the gypsy queen Stevie Nicks right down to the femme fatale Sharon Tate.

Combining elements of all kinds of different aesthetics, Lex creates this timeless yet authentic look. The authenticity of her style comes from the direct inspiration taken from original photos of the 1960s and 1970s, most notably pictures from iconic concerts of a distant time such as Woodstock, and the infamous concerts at Hyde Park, which were a goldmine for eccentric and individual style. Other female influences are Jane Birkin and Brigitte Bardot, both icons of effortless style.

Immediately you can see the influence of the iconic stars of yesteryear (I mean, look at the white fur coat in the pictures below!) Although inspiration has been taken from these, one can see that Lex has developed this look, and added her own concepts in there too. Lex’s genersl aesthetic has a definite vibe of Woodstock and even the 1966 cult movie Sedmikrásky (or Daisies as you may know it ,) and it is easy to imagine her at Hyde Park in 1970, watching Pink Floyd or at The Altamont Speedway watching The Rolling Stones. In Lex’s style I see remnants of the actress Sharon Tate, also, with whom she shares a slight resemblance.

So far, all I have mentioned are the female inspirations, but even more excitingly, Lex’s style is derived from some of rock and rolls’ greatest male characters, such as Roger Waters, Mick Jagger, Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey and Jim Morrison. These influences furtherly add to the rock and roll vibe, and are a key point in the aesthetic.

Over all, we can see the layered gypsy goddess style come through, combined with the opulence and flamboyance of some of the worlds greatest rockstars and they come to together to create a well rounded, timeless and effortless signature look, that truly defines Lex.

Ei – The Modern Warholian

“The Modern Warholian”

A very true statement when it comes to Ei, who is every inch the Warhol Superstar. Straight away one can see the massive influence that Warhol and his followers have on her style, and it serves her well, given the fact Ei looks as though she just came from The Factory in 1965!

Immediately you can see that Ei’s main inspiration is Edie Sedgwick, and it has to be said that Ei bears a resemblance to the original Warhol Superstar. Ei keeps her style based around the 1960s, but seeks inspiration from other eras, such as the 20s and the 90s. Like many others, Ei’s clothing is sourced from thrift stores and in her own words “anything over four dollars is too expensive.”

Aside from Edie, Ei collects her inspiration from both men and women alike, with people such as Lana Del Rey, Brian Jones, Patti Smith, Syd Barrett, Nico, David Bowie, Keith Richards and Debbie Harry serving as inspirations. Combining all these influences creates an interesting and individual look, completed with the trademark makeup of Edie herself.

Even though Ei may source her inspiration from others, every outfit definitely has the “Edie” silhouette and the high fashion of a 1960s supermodel.

Ei truly is the modern Warhol Superstar.

The Influence Of The Warhol Superstars.

Alot has been said about The Warhol Superstars. Yes, they sound like an edgy art rock band, but they’re quite the opposite..

Andy Warhol was at his peak in the mid 1960s, after setting up his “Factory” in New York, Warhol began producing movies, and these movies stared the “Warhol Superstars.” These people were made for the screen, with their eccentricity and individuality. They were the epitome of the time.

Perhaps the most famous of the Warhol Superstars is the mysterious and beautiful Edie Sedgwick. She became a close confidante of Andy, and although she was only on the scene for a small sliver of time, she was easily recognised by her gamine figure and bambi stare. Edie’s style was one that mirrored the time, it was one of simple striped shirts, and low slung kitten heels combined with ornate chandelier earrings and mini dresses. Her makeup was her most identifiable feature, with dark lines drawn in the eye socket and feline eyeliner. Edie mirrored the feel of the time and sparked a trend that would prove to span over generations.

Other notable Warhol Superstars are:

Nico
International Velvet
Candy Darling (Immortalised in the Lou Reed song, “Walk On The Wild Side”)
Ingrid Superstar
Holly Woodlawn
Cyrinda Foxe
Chuck Wein
Cherry Vanilla
